Lesson 3: The Hollywood Big 6
Major Film Studios
A major film studio is a film producer and distribution company that releases a substantial number of films annually.
The ‘Big 6’ Hollywood studios are:
§ 20th Century Fox
§ Warner Bros.
§ Paramount
§ Columbia
§ Universal
§ Walt Disney Studio.
Roughly 9/10 films in the UK are seen as a result of these distributers.
Tasks:
In pairs, research one film studio and present on PowerPoint.
Your presentation should include information on:
- the studio's history
- their subsidiary companies and evaluate how their importance to the studio
- detailed research on the studio's greatest successes i.e. films that have broken records, franchises, breakthroughs in technology etc
